How scoring works

How scoring works

Each dive is seven open prompts. You get 25 seconds and one answer per prompt.

Your answer is filed by how obvious it is: Plankton 10, Too Clever 15, Schooler 30, Rare 60, Deep Cut 85, One in a Krillion 100. One point is ten metres, so a perfect dive is 700 points and 7,000 m.

The obvious answer is always Plankton. Getting deeper means naming something true that the crowd would not think of first.

An answer the bank does not recognise scores nothing — the prompt tells you so and lets you try again before the clock runs out.
