Noillirk Tips: How to Hit the #1 Answer on a Board
Noillirk pays for the answer most people would give. How the five bands, the position multiplier and the fixed board work together, and where thinking pays.

How does Noillirk score a round?
Ten prompts, 30 seconds each, one answer apiece. Your answer is placed against a fixed board — the game’s own estimate, made in advance, of how one hundred people would answer — and the position decides the band:
| Where your answer sits | Band | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Top of the board | #1 Answer | 100 |
| #2–#3 | Runner-up | 75 |
| #4–#5 | Top 5 | 50 |
| #6–#10 | Top 10 | 25 |
| Outside the ten | Off the Board | 10 |
After you guess, the game shows the top five and where you landed. That is the only look at the board anyone gets, which is why there is no Noillirk answer list and why any page offering one is inventing it.
Why does the obvious answer beat the more accurate one?
Because the board is not a measure of truth, it is a measure of what gets said. “Name a Marvel superhero” does not want your favourite; it wants the one on the poster, because that is what a hundred strangers produce when the question is short and the clock is running.
Every time you upgrade an answer one notch — from pizza to Neapolitan pizza, from a dog to an otterhound — you move down the board rather than up it. The game even marks the board “est.” to remind you it is an estimate of people, not a fact about the world.
Where should you spend your thirty seconds?
Late. The multipliers are ×1 ×1 ×2 ×2 ×2 ×3 ×3 ×3 ×4 ×4, so the last two prompts are worth four times the first two, and a #1 on prompt ten pays 400 of the 2,500 perfect score by itself.
The practical version: answer the first four at speed with your reflex, and use the extra thinking on prompts eight, nine and ten, where the same answer is worth three or four times as much. Getting prompt ten right is worth more than getting prompts one and two right combined.
What makes an answer land at #1?
Three properties show up again and again in the top slot:
- It is the plainest member of the category. Not the most famous — the most default. Asked for a colour, the board starts with red, not with teal.
- It fits the level the prompt sets. A prompt about breakfast foods is answered with cereal, not with a named brand of cereal.
- It is sayable in one word. Board entries are what people type, not what they would write.
The failure mode is the mirror image of Krillion’s: there, the 15-point tier punishes trying to be interesting; here, the Off the Board band punishes being clever at all.
What does a good run actually look like?
Not spectacular. Across the closed Dailies we record, the average run works out to between 49 and 74 points a prompt, which is the gap between the Top 5 band and the Runner-up band — the field is landing on the fourth and fifth most common answers, not on the first.
That is the shape of the game: knowing a reasonable answer gets you into the top ten comfortably, and the last stretch to 2,500 is saying the most obvious thing ten times running. The daily score distributions show how few runs actually manage it.
How is this the opposite of Krillion?
Exactly opposite, which is why switching between them costs more than it looks. Krillion pays for the answer nobody thought of and punishes the reflex; Noillirk pays for the reflex and punishes anything that sounds deliberate.
Same habit, inverted: in Krillion you climb by getting narrower, here you climb by getting flatter. If you have trained the deeper-answer instinct, you will actively have to unlearn it for these ten prompts — and the players who do best at Noillirk are usually the ones who stopped thinking about it first.
